Reports filed today show 36th Congressional challenger Raul Ruiz set a new fundraising record for local Democrats, raising almost $550,000 in a three month period.
Ruiz’s fundraising significantly outpaced the nearly $390,000 that Rep. Mary Bono Mack raised during the same three months.
Bono Mack, who started her campaign about nine months before Ruiz, has still spent more in this campaign cycle and has about $111,000 more in cash on hand as the two enter the final stretch of the campaign.
The quarterly fundraising reports show the money raised and spent from July 1 through Sept. 30.
Here’s a look at their fundraising activity this quarter:
– Bono Mack, a Palm Springs Republican, raised $386,981, spent $392,075 and has $843,117 in cash on hand.
– Ruiz, an emergency room physician from Palm Desert, raised $544,680, spent $437,359 and has $732,193 in cash on hand.
The two candidates are vying for the new 36th Congressional seat, which includes the entire Coachella Valley.
