Ad watch: Raul Ruiz targets Mary Bono Mack over Medicare

The ad blitz in the 36th Congressional District continued this week as Democratic challenger Raul Ruiz hit Rep. Mary Bono Mack on Medicare.

The ad hit the airwaves this week.

This marks the first time in his television ads that Ruiz has directly discussed Medicare, which has been the primary focus of his campaign’s town hall series.

Bono Mack, a Palm Springs Republican, has twice voted for a Republican budget proposal that would transform Medicare into a voucher-like system. Ruiz, an emergency room physician from Palm Desert is a supporter of the health care overhaul signed by President Obama, which also cuts Medicare and reinvests the money into other health care programs.

Both the Republican and the Democratic plans cut Medicare by more than $700 billion.
