In case you missed it, The Desert Sun published a story today that looked at the start of the ad blitz in the 36th Congressional race.
As the story noted, Republican Rep. Mary Bono Mack and Democratic challenger Raul Ruiz have spent all their advertising dollars so far on television.
But that doesn’t mean local mailboxes aren’t getting targeted.
The California Democratic Party has already released two multi-page mailers touting Ruiz’s east valley upbringing and efforts to improve health care in the desert.
Both mailers – one of which landed over the weekend – seem to be geared toward the district’s decline-to-state voters.
Party spokesman Tenoch Flores declined to say exactly how much state Democrats would be investing in Ruiz’ campaign
“The final number is going to be consistent with the fact that this is a targeted race for the state party,” Flores said.
The early mailers also indicate the party is taking a more aggressive approach than it did in 2010, when state Democrats funded two mailers in the local congressional race but they landed closer to Election Day.
