The teachers union is asking Desert Sands Unified’s elected school board to pass a tax fairness resolution during today’s board meeting.
The resolution calls for a “fair and equitable” tax system that provides “an adequate amount of per-pupil funding needed to ensure all California students the opportunity for a quality public education.”
Today’s board meeting starts at 7 p.m.
Members of the Desert Sands Teachers Association are trying to make their voices heard this election year. The union earlier this month held a community meeting as members search for “education-friendly candidates” to run in November.
**Update: The union’s resolution failed to get support with the board, as only two of the five board members backed the idea.
