Cook analysis: 36th district is ‘likely Republican’ seat

Officials said the ranking means “these seats are not considered competitive at this point but have the potential to become engaged.”
Rep. Mary Bono Mack will be seeking re-election in the newly redrawn 36th Congressional District, which includes the entire Coachella Valley as well as Beaumont, San Jacinto and eastern Riverside County.
The Palm Springs Republican is being challenged by Democrat Raul Ruiz, an emergency room physician from Palm Desert, and Paul Servelle, a retired educator from Palm Springs who is running under the “no party preference” banner.
The latest Cook report is consistent with findings from last June, when a similar analysis also put Bono Mack’s district as ”likely Republican.” At the time, the statewide redistricting process had not been finalized.
