The Sacramento Bee published an interesting story today about a nonprofit group controlled by the Latino Legislative Caucus.

The newspaper found the caucus stopped releasing who donates to the nonprofit, raising questions about whether those donors are buying influence to lawmakers.

The Coachella Valley has a few local ties to the story:

– The Bee reports “many of the biggest checks came from powerful Capitol players,” including the desert’s own Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.

– The desert’s two Democratic lawmakers – Assemblyman V. Manuel Perez and Sen. Juan Vargas – are members of the caucus.
