Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet has kept his political plans close to the vest, prompting plenty of speculation about whether the Democrat will run for reelection or launch another congressional campaign to challenge Rep. Mary Bono Mack.
Seems the theories will continue for a while longer.
During a recent appearance on Steve Kelly’s KPSI-AM radio show, Pougnet said he was planning what’s “most likely a political announcement” on July 21.
Pougnet didn’t say what’s so special about that Thursday.
However, it just happens to be the day after city council will consider a project funding agreement for the controversial Desert Fashion Plaza plans. And it is the same day that the state redistricting committee plans to release the second round of maps.
But we’re sure that’s just a coincidence.
**Update on Friday, June 17: The commission has pushed up the date for the release of revised maps. They will now be unveiled on July 12.
